Whether you JUST finished college OR you’re looking for a change, finding a job can seem like a daunting task. The good news is, no matter what stage of life you’re in, there are tips you can use to make finding a job easier! Read our tips below on how to find a job.

Tip #1 – make sure you have an up to date resume. Make sure all the information is accurate and you showcase your strengths so they stand out. Spend time researching appropriate terms and keywords for the industry you’re looking to work in.

Tip #2 – Most companies require a cover letter. Now, you’ll want to research the company and tailor your cover letter to them. Show them that you did your homework and why you’re interested in working with them specifically. This is another way you stand out from the other applicants.

Not sure how to begin finding a job? Here are a few different ways to search for your next (or first) job.

Ask People You Already Know – USE YOUR NETWORK!

Post on your social media accounts that you are looking for a job and what field you’re looking in.

Whether you just finished college or it’s been a while, post in the student or alumni section of your school website.

Being referred to a job by someone you know can give you a leg up over other applicants.

Jobs are much easier to find online, so use the internet to your advantage. If you are looking for a job in Accounting, Admin, Finance, HR, Operations, Marketing, or Sales, BizHired is the best resource to check out.

Make sure you check out our job postings. If you are not looking for a career in the above categories, be sure to use other sites as well, including Glassdoor and Indeed. Don’t forget about LinkedIn and Alignable as other sources for job postings.

Even Craigslist has job postings, though you should proceed with caution and make sure you verify the job posting before supplying your personal information.

Attend In-Person Events – NETWORKING IS KEY!

Don’t let the internet be your only source to find a job.

Meeting people face to face when looking for a new opportunity can really increase your odds of getting an interview. Always have a few copies of your resume with you in case you meet a connection.

Not sure what events to look for? Here are a few ideas to get you started:

  • Check for events put on by your local Chamber of Commerce
  • Meetup.com and Eventbrite are great resources to find local events like job fairs
  • Search local colleges for job fairs and events you can attend
  • Find local events put on in and around your community or the area you want to work in

A lot of these events are free, which can help offset other costs you might incur when job searching.

Finding the right job for you doesn’t have to be difficult, but it can be time-consuming. We hope these resources and ideas have helped you get started on your job search. It doesn’t matter if you have no experience or want to change industries, we can help you find a job you’ll love.
